Blue and White Day at the Capitol
Posted on Monday, March 16, 2026 6:13 PM
On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. – State of Georgia and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. – State of Georgia gathered at the Georgia State Capitol with one mission: to ensure that our collective voices were heard and that the strength of our partnership was clearly visible.
This year’s theme, “The Power of Partnership: Uniting Policy and Purpose for a Just Georgia,” guided the day’s activities and discussions.
Purpose
The purpose of the event was to provide key insights and engagement opportunities with Georgia State legislators participating in the 2026 Blue and White Day at the Capitol. This platform allowed members to engage in meaningful dialogue and exchange information on legislative issues impacting our communities. With over 150 individuals registered, the Joint Social Action Committee—led by
Brother Ucal T. Palmer, Jr., Sister Elizabeth Gibson, and Sister Donna Harmon—along with the newly established Joint Legislative Task Force (JTLF), organized a program designed to address current legislation and issues affecting communities across Georgia.
The program consisted of two sessions: a morning (AM) session and an afternoon (PM) session.
Morning Session
The morning session featured remarks and dialogue with several distinguished legislators, including:
- Senator Josh McLaurin (District 14 – Sandy Springs)
- Senator Freddie Powell Sims (District 12 – Dawson)
- Senator Jaha Howard (District 35 – Smyrna)
Following the session, attendees proceeded to the Capitol for a commemorative photo with Brian Kemp and the First Lady of Georgia. The organizations were also honored in the Georgia Senate Chambers with a joint resolution recognizing the day and the service of both organizations.
Afternoon Session
The afternoon session continued with engaging discussion and fellowship. Lunch was
catered by Hunter’s Café, providing attendees an opportunity to network and continue
conversations around civic engagement.
The educational forum and Q&A session was led by JTLF leaders Brother Demetrius
Rucker and Sister Dr. Dionne Lyne, who facilitated dialogue with several legislators,
including:
- Senator Kenya Wicks (District 34 – Fayette County)
- Senator Derek Mallow (District 2 – Savannah)
- Representative Derrick Jackson (District 68 – Tyrone)
- Senator RaShaun Kemp (District 38 – Atlanta)
- Senator Tonya Anderson (District 43 – Lithonia)
During the discussion, legislators addressed several critical issues affecting the state, including data center development, healthcare access, and education policy. Their passion and commitment to public service were evident throughout the dialogue, reinforcing the importance of civic awareness and community advocacy. The session served as a powerful reminder that informed and engaged voters are essential to a thriving democracy.
As we look ahead to the upcoming midterm elections, the work of the Joint Legislative Task Force will remain critical in helping our members and communities stay informed, engaged, and prepared to participate in every election—because every election matters.
